yogena cittasya padena vācām malam śarīrasya ca vaidyakena
yopākarottam pravaram munīnām patañjalim prāñjalirānatosmi
To the preeminent sage Patañjali, who gave us yoga to remove impurities of the mind, grammar to remove impurities in communication, and medical science to remove impurities of the body, I give honor and gratitude.
ābāhu puruṣākāram śaṅkhacakrāsidhāriṇam
sahasra śirasam śvetam praṇamāmi patañjalim
To Patañjali, whose luminous body with a thousand heads is human in form up t the shoulders and who hands hold a conch, a cakra, and a sword, I salute.
śrīmate anantāya nāgarājāya namo namaḥ
To the glorious Ananta, king of the Nagas, respect and gratitude!
